China’S Ports Optimize Route Layout And Accelerate Cargo Expansion

Since the beginning of this year, my country's ports have closely followed market demand, actively optimized route layout, increased multimodal transport of goods, and boosted my country's economic development.

Recently, a container train loaded with 1,080.5 tons of PVC pellets cleared customs from the Xining Comprehensive Bonded Zone in Qinghai Province and headed to Qingdao Port, where it will then be shipped to Thailand and Malaysia. This is the first sea-rail intermodal train launched by Qingdao Port in Qinghai Province. Up to now, Qingdao Port has opened 74 sea-rail intermodal trains across the country and established 39 inland stations. In the first three quarters, the total volume of cargo shipped by Qingdao Port's sea-rail intermodal trains reached 1.697 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 17.3%.

Data show that my country's container throughput in the first three quarters reached 230 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 5.2%. Among them, the growth rate in the third quarter was 5.9%, and the growth rate was 1 percentage point faster than that in the first half of the year.

While multimodal transport has become a new growth point, the growth rate of port cargo throughput has also remained at a high level. In the first 10 months, the cumulative cargo throughput of Zhejiang Ningbo Zhoushan Port exceeded 1.1 billion tons, ranking first in the world. At the same time, closely following the export needs of foreign trade enterprises and market demand, the total number of container routes has stabilized at more than 300, and the number of "Belt and Road" routes and RCEP routes has increased to 129.

Data show that in the first three quarters, my country’s port cargo throughput was 12.54 billion tons, a year-on-year increase of 8.5%. Among them, the growth rate in the third quarter was 9.5%, an acceleration of 1.5 percentage points compared with the first half of the year.
